Success Story BBL

edubreak® and basketball

How blended learning is a success in basketball

The German Basketball Training Fund, consisting of easyCredit BBL, ProA, and ProB, has a clear goal: to promote youth development in Germany. To support member clubs in finding and developing young talent, the Training Fund has set up a support program. The core of the program involves supporting the youth coaches responsible for training and developing young coaches in Bundesliga clubs.

Blended learning trainer program at easyCredit BBL

The challenge

  • Design of a completely new training program with didactic and technological support from Ghostthinker
  • Nationwide distribution of participants in the junior coach training program
  • Design of a blended learning structure consisting of practical phases in the club and theory and coaching phases in online and face-to-face formats
  • Blended learning concept should lead to success patterns that will serve subsequent training cohorts
  • Peer-to-peer education: Focus on cross-course exchange and implementation of group and individual coaching
  • Design of a complementary training program to the classic association-based coach training program

The solution

  • Development of a blended learning concept in collaboration with the “Institut für Spielanalyse”
    – Preparatory and follow-up online phases with support from specialist mentors.
    – Self-organized online work closely linked to the everyday work of the coaches.
  • Combination of subject-specific (e.g., basic techniques, decision-making training, group tactics) and interdisciplinary offerings (e.g., learning and teaching, talent, leadership, personality).
  • Modules supervised by specialist mentors with extensive practical experience
  • Social video learning: video analysis at the heart of teaching, designed to promote active, reflective, and social learning
  • Technological and didactic basis: edubreak®CAMPUS & edubreak®COMMUNTIY
With blended learning, we don't want to remove trainers from their system, but rather provide them with additional training. Online training gives us the opportunity to dive right into the topic during face-to-face sessions. The key is the online phases for preparation and the integration of video training into daily training work. Afterwards, the only way to retain content is through structured follow-up of the face-to-face content on the online campus.
